Let me clear things up.
When challenging, the challenger would always fight the Alpha, whether or not they are a female or male. Might seem sexist, but the Alpha does have the upper hand.
If the challenger is male, and won against the Alpha, he would take over the previous Alpha's spot. The Alphaess would then become the new Alpha's mate, or she could rejoin as a memeber, based on what the two alphas decided when they battled.
If the fighter was female, she'd still fight the Alpha. But if she won, both leaders would be kicked out. Or, if the challenger wants, the Alpha would become her mate, and the previous Alphaess would leave or rejoin as a member. But if the two members fighting wish to have both females fight instead of the male, then that works too. It would have the same outcome, though. This also works if the female challenger wants both the land and the male alpha. She would request that he become her mate.
There are possible stakes. Some could be that the loser leaves the land for good, or the loser may join as a member. Or if the challenger wins, both leaders would leave or become a member, giving the Winner the option of chosing their own mate.
